Releasing IDPs: Lack of coordination prevails
By Melanie Bamunusinghe, Achala Dissanayake
While claiming that the government’s decision to release persons in the IDP camps to their relatives should be reactivated, the Bishop of Colombo, Rt. Revd. Duleep de Chickera, yesterday said that lack of co-ordination among State Authorities was disappointing in this regard.
He said that the rehabilitation and resettlement of IDPs should speed up due to the anticipated monsoon and that the decision to release to be seen as an interim measure.
He concluded that media should be given access to areas de-mined and reconstructed so that the public could be notified on this work so as to show the progress made.
