Tamil youth arrested at the age of 14 detained without being charged for 15 years

A leader from the People’s Movement for Freedom and Democracy told Lanka News Web that a Tamil youth arrested at the age of 14 has been detained without being charged for the past 15 years. The Tamil youth who is currently in prison is 29 years old.

The Organization had come across this detail when they were collecting data to use for a planned protest campaign calling for the release of journalist J.S. Tissainayagam and other political prisoners who are being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The source further said that there are many Tamil youth who have been arrested under the PTA and detained without being charged in the Welikada, Kalutara and Boossa prisons.
