UN/OCHA/REP : LET THE TAMIL CIVILIANS AND TAMIL POLICE MANAGE DETENTION CAMPS!!! WILL THE RACIST REGIME ALLOW THAT???!!!

UN wants civilians to manage Vavuniya IDP camps

The UN has emphasized the need for the IDP camps in Vavuniya to be managed by civilians, and reiterates the need for more civilian police, including women police and police from the Tamil community.

Speaking to reporters at the UN, Michele Montas, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban ki-moon said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has been informed by the Government of Sri Lanka that it will soon issue ID cards to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) once the registration process is completed. These ID cards will allow for IDPs to travel outside camp locations for employment, purchasing provisions and other essential activities. Currently over 20,000 IDPs have already registered for IDs and the process is ongoing.

Since the recent large influx of IDPs, many of the camp management duties in camps have been taken over by the military. The United Nations continues to emphasize the need for the camps to be managed by civilians, and reiterates the need for more civilian police, including women police and police from the Tamil community.

Meanwhile she also said in Menik Farm zone 2, around 30 percent of children under the age of five reportedly suffer from moderate malnutrition, while 20 percent suffer from acute malnutrition.

Looks like UN has understood the need of civilians who got traped in IDP camps. UN statement echo the recent shocking revelation by channel4. Hope and wish the well being of those civilians on IDP. The Triple Gem Bless all those civilians who were attacked and injured by this aggression.

This is something positive said by UN instead of blaming the gov. I also believe that gov should let people manage the IDP camps and provide what they ask for. In that way IDPs and gov will build a better understanding each other. But LTTE must be erased from Sri Lanka before everything.

I agree IDP centres should manage by civilian administration with help of police. But everybody's security very important. So Army must be station there for security purpose. LTTE will attack these places when they have a opportunity. We should not allow UN or any other INGO/NGO to manage these camps. If we do they will prepare the people for another problem similar to LTTE.

Will there be UN embargo if we do not allow the appeal made by the UN ? We have a clean record in the UN in the last 50 years and should not tarnish that image
