Appeal on behalf of public servants among IDPs
Claiming that there are a few public servants among the displaced persons in the North, the Democratic People’s Front (DPF), called on the Government to give them appointments in safe areas.
DPF General Secretary Dr. G. Kumarguruparan told the Daily Mirror that there is a Assistant Government Agent of Mullaitivu, an Education Director of Mullaitivu and the Bank of Ceylon Mallavi branch manager among the IDPs. In addition he said there were three veterinary surgeons in the camps. He said these persons are in a difficult situation financially as they have not been able to get on with their jobs after they escaped from the clutches of LTTE.
Asked whether his party is making any arrangements to fulfil its obligations towards the displaced Tamil persons, he said the party is planning to help them in the near future through a relief program.
He said the Government should allow the opposition MPs to visit the IDP camps and study the situation. “If the Government does that we can assess what the people need. He also stressed the need for special care of the elderly people in the camps.
Dr. Kumarguruparan said the DPF does not care about the fate of the LTTE but the innocent civilians should be taken care off.”
