Rs. 10 million in flood aid swindled by the Eastern Army head

A sum of Rs. 10 million given by the People’s Bank as flood relief for the people affected by the recent floods in the Eastern province have been used by the Commanding Officer of the Army in the Eastern Province to purchase Treasury Bills without distributing it among the flood affected, sources from the Army headquarters said.

Public funds have been swindled in this manner by the Army’s Eastern Commanding Officer Major General Boniface Perera.

He had purchased the Treasury Bills from the National Savings Bank in Kaduruwela and has already taken the first interest payment.
