Thank you for contacting the Elders regarding their recent statement on Sri Lanka; we endeavour to respond to all messages although regret that the Elders cannot answer personally.

We have received a large number of messages, most in support of the statement and some critical of it. The Elders would like to emphasise their key message which is that respect for human rights, particularly freedom of expression and information, dialogue between Sri Lanka's communities and true accountability on both sides for their actions during the war will be vital to achieving meaningful reconciliation and building trust in the country.

We sincerely hope that you will continue to engage with The Elders in the future.
