15,000 students in the North still under trees
2010-08-08
Close to 15,000 students in the North are reportedly receiving their education in temporary shacks as wells as under trees, as their schools are being sued to house LTTE suspects and detainees.
Key among such schools are the Vavuniya Central College, Omanthai Maha Vidyalaya, Kaithadi Maha Vidyalaya and Kilinochchi Vidyalaya. Omanthai Maha Vidyalaya is being used as a transit camp for displaced persons.
Students have therefore been compelled to receive their education in alternative places like temporary shacks and under trees.
