RANIL.W./UNP:SRILANKA UPFA GOVT KILLED 15 JOURNALISTS!!!

Guinness Book thrown across House

The government and the opposition in parliament yesterday conceded to each other places in the Guinness Book of World Records but for uncomplimentary reasons.

While the government ridiculed the main opposition UNP that it had set a GWR by losing 15 elections in a row, the UNP hit back saying the UPFA government had killed 15 journalists, entitling it too to be placed in the Guinness Book.

The cross-talk erupted when Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunewardena said the UNP’s political stance was inconsistent and this had resulted in it losing 15 elections in a row and entitled it a place in the record books.

Mr. Gunewardena called on the UNP not to add to its string of election losses by also losing the no-confidence motion against the government.

“We gave you time till 11p.m. to debate the no-confidence motion, but you ran away. We are sorry to say that the UNP is not consistant in its stance. Don’t act like this and enter the Guinness book of records”, Mr. Gunewardena said.

This statement irked opposition UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who rose to his feet and retorted that it was the UPFA government that found a place in the Guinness record books by killing 15 journalists.

“On the day before the debate on the no-confidence motion Lasantha Wickrematunge, the person who exposed the hedging deal, was assassinated. With the killing of 15 journalists, it is the UPFA government that has entered the Guinness Book of World records,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said.

He said that today there were two governments in Sri Lanka, and in such a context ministers like Dinesh Gunewardena were unable to make responsible statements in the House.
