Schoolgirls allege sexual harassment at waterpolo
By Namal Pathirage
Visakha Girls College has lodged a protest with Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge over an alleged sexual harassment of its team by Air Force players during last Sunday’s waterpolo final at the National Aquatic Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium pool, the Daily Mirror learns.
The Visakha girls have alleged that they were bitten, squeezed and poked at sensitive spots during the final which they lost to the Air Force team 7-5.
Minister Lokuge has promised the school an inquiry and has already appointed his ministry’s medical consultant Dr. Geethanjana Mendis to examine the Visakha girls and submit a report.
Swimming administration is virtually dead in the country and is only run by an interim committee which is less active and played no major part in the conducting of the meet.
