New arrivals of 26 SL-Tamil refugees are reported from Rameswaram of Tamilnaadu in India.They were transported by boatmen from Mannar in northern Srilanka by 2 boats on 16.05.08.One boat left 1o refugees on island of sandbank which was later surrounded by sea water tides but due to timely information of other boat refugees, Indian Navy brought them to shore quickly.Refugees are tamil men , women, elders as well as children who are fleeing the brutality of Sinhala soldiers!
Thanuskody Police took them to Mandapam Refugees Camp safely. They said that they paid 4000,-srs each for the dangerous trip of ca.40 km by sea due to the heavy shelling,bombing, killings,kidnappings in Mannar by SLA/SLAF/SLN.
WTRF is thanking IN,TP,GTN and GOI for their kindness,help,prompt action towards poor Tamil civilian refugees from SL!
