ARRIVAL OF SL-TAMIL REFUGEES IN TN,INDIA

From 2001 Jan to 2008 Ap....21,500 SL-tamil refugees arrived in TN,India (official info)
74,110 refugees....are staying in 147 refugee camps in TN and 1 refugee camp in Orissa.
2,20,010 are registered refugees.
from 1983 ....2,99,000 arrived....but 99,469 repatriated.
1983-87...period...1,34,000 arrivals
400 landing points for refugees in India.
1983-2007 dec...397 crore rupees spent by central govt of India(UNHCR help for these refugees is not mentioned in the report of the Ministry of Home affairs,GOI.....editor) (courtesy:the hindu)

Our Recommendations:

1.GOI,TNGovt. shd tell the GOSL to find amicable solution urgently(within few months by dialogue /political solution ) to stop refugees flow and unwanted burden to India.
2.Start Rameswaram-Mannar ship service immediately to facilitate normal travelling to all refugees,pilgrims, tourists,small business people!Many hundreds of refugees were killed by boat capsizing or sudden tides on small islands where they were left alone by boat people or killed by SLN-troops.Give all of them visas on arrival like Singapore!.....may be (3/6mnths/1 year).This will be helpful for registering refugees in an orderly manner and avoid unregistered refugees on various landing points!
