‘State’s powers, blessings with rapists, murderers’

Powers and blessings of the state are with rapists and murderers, alleges Eksath Lak Wanitha Peramuna chairperson Shanthini Kongahage says.

In a statement, she says this is confirmed in the Tangalle killing of a British tourist and the rape of his partner, Russian national Victoria Alexandrovna.

It has now been found that a regional politician of the government is one person responsible for the incident, at a time when the Southern province is under the governorship of a woman in Kumari Balasuriya, she says.

Mrs. Kongahage adds that this incident has threatened tourism, one of the industries on which national income depends.

More than 1,670 rapes of women took place in the past year in this Buddhist country, she says.

The country has not experienced a dark and barbaric period like one in the present, Mrs. Kongahage says, adding that all women should join together to eliminate sexuality and to safeguard the country’s dignity.
