Eastern Army Commander Major General Boniface Perera says that armed groups operating in the East have surrendered 13 weapons and that there were several other groups operating in the area.

He made this comment when questioned about the amnesty granted for armed groups in the East to hand over their weapons to the security forces.

He said there were armed groups still operating in the East, although an exact number could not be given. However, he has added that action would be taken when solid information is received on the groups.

Northern Army Commander Major General Mahinda Haturusinghe when asked about the surrendering of weapons said he was not aware of any such armed groups.

He has said that if information was received any such groups, their weapons would be taken even by the using force.
