Between LTTE and President there is no difference -North East Sinhala Organization Secretary
Even if the Tamils are settled Govt. has no interest in settling the Sinhalese
(Lanka-e-News, 30.March.2011, 11.45PM) The North and East Sinhala Organization Secretary R M A Bandara stated with deep disappointment that between the LTTE terrorists and the President Mahinda Rajapakse there exists no difference. Today, there is no war or the drums of war, yet, under the pretext of development the Govt. is plundering the properties, lands and assets of the Tamil, Muslim and Sinhala people, he added.
From Paname in the north to Kokilai, the Govt is in the process of plundering the lands and assets of 60,000 families. During the war those lands were considered as ‘neighboring villages’. But today, the Govt. is producing documents to claim that they belong to the Port, Archaeological Dept., and Forest conservation, and evacuating those people living on those lands, Bandara pointed out with deep regret.
Bandara revealed this deplorable and tragic situation while answering a question posed by the media at a Press briefing on ‘a new vision , a new journey', held today (30) at Dharma Vijaya foundation at Bauddhaloka Mawatha.
The question posed by the journalist was, to conclude a thirty year old war, your Organization helped the Mahinda Rajapakse Govt. unconditionally, but now you are castigating the same Govt. Are you telling that there is no difference between the LTTE Organization and the Rajapakse Govt.?
The East and North Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslim people have not gained anything from the victory achieved over the defeat of the LTTE. Specially the coastal lands of the north have been sold to Colombo businessmen at high prices. But those people living in those regions are unable to build even a latrine, for the Govt. is not granting them permission.
The people of the East and North faced all kinds of hardships during the 30 year old war. They supported Mahinda Rajapakse with the hope that they will be able to peacefully and freely do their farming and eat some food. But these people are now stating that they would have been better off if the war had continued, Bandara revealed.
Bandara speaking further said, the infamous LTTE murderous leader Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP who supplied arms to the LTTE from abroad, is being mollycoddled and pampered by the Govt., but the former Army Commander who was in the vanguard of the victorious war against the terrorists is held behind bars. Even though an individual taken into custody as a suspect cannot register any organizations, K P the noted criminal and terrorist had registered a non Governmental Organization (NGO). If anybody has committed an offence, he must be punished duly irrespective of whether he is a Sinhalese, Muslim or Tamil, he emphatically stated.
Because the Govt. has sold the Islets of the East and North, the fishermen have been forbidden to go to those Islets by the SL Navy, he noted.
The civilians who lived in the administrative districts of the LTTE have still not secured their freedom. If these issues are not resolved promptly and if they are delayed, the rebellion that could rise against the Govt. can be more horrifying than the 30 year old war, he warned.
Though the Govt. may re settle the Tamils displaced during the war, the Govt. has shown no interest towards the re settlement of the Sinhalese people. During the war, like a large number of media personnel from the south, so the media personnel from the north and East were killed or went missing, he declared.
Bandara pointed out, when his organization was supporting the Govt. unconditionally, to defeat the LTTE terrorists, the so called patriots confined to the north, bartered away wholesale the interests of the Sinhala people in the ‘neighboring villages’ at the altar of their selfish self seeking politics and entered Parliament. Despite the fact that the war had ended, the Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people have not derived any benefits – they have suffered losses only, he observed.
The President of the Sinhala Organization of the north and East Ven. Senadhipathiye Ananda Thero also spoke on the occasion.
