A senior official from the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka has officially expressed the displeasure of the Indian government at the statement made by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne in parliament yesterday (9) that there are three LTTE training camps operating in Tamil Nadu, a senior official from the External Affairs Ministry told Lanka News Web.
The official said that the controversial statement made by the Prime Minister might have an adverse impact on the Indo-Lanka ties soon after resolving the issue related to the Indian fishermen's issue.
The Prime Minister while moving the motion to extend emergency regulations by another month in parliament said that the LTTE camps are being operated by a senior LTTEer affiliated to the former intelligence chief Pottu Amman and that the cadres are being trained to target VVIPs in Indian politics while re-establishing the organization in Sri Lanka.
A coordinating secretary to the Prime Minister said the Prime Minister had made the statement on a request made by the Defence Secretary. He added that it was the Defence Ministry that gave the motion to extend emergency regulations in parliament and the contents for the Prime Minister's opening speech.
