Forty four government ministers yesterday registered their protest in writing with UN Secretary General Ban Ki- Moon on the appointment of an expert panel to advise him on the accountability issues during the last stage of war.
In a letter sent to the Secretary General, these MPs said that the sovereignty of Sri Lanka had been infringed in this exercise.
“The Government of Sri Lanka had already taken the initiative to look at the identical matter which you addressed by appointing the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.
In these circumstances, we are concerned to know why you have appointed such a panel of advisors,” they said in the letter. They also requested the UN Secretary General to dissolve this panel.
They said the Secretary General had put Sri Lankan on the dock internationally through this action.
