Maintenance, management and security of the Hambantota and Kankasanthurai harbors to be given to China for 10yrs!

The President is currently exploring the possibility of carrying out the maintenance, development management and security of the Hambantota and Kankasanthurai ports in coordination with Chinese firms for a period of 10 years, reliable sources told Lanka News Web.

Sources also said that Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa was heavily backing the proposal.

It is learnt that the government has discussed and arrived at a final decision on the matter with China Harbor Company. Although the local agent for China Harbor is Sumal Perera from Access Group, affairs of the Chinese firm is being handled completely by Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

It was Basil who assigned the construction of the Hambantota Port to China Harbor.
