General Secretary of the Democratic People’s Front (DPF) Dr. Kumar Guruparan said that the Government had to be sincere towards the reconciliation process and the political solution and there had to be a complete change in its communal psyche.
He said that there had be a paradigm shift in the thinking of the Government, including its allies, to accept a lasting political solution and to implement the LLRC recommendations if it was to achieve a harmonious coexistence with equal opportunities and rights for all.
The government should have control over various remarks made by senior Cabinet ministers which run contrary to the LLRC recommendations, Dr. Guruparan said.
He said that the DPF hoped for a better era with understanding towards ethnic harmony and asked the why the Government allowed remand prisoners to languish in remand for years on end when rehabilitated LTTE cadres were released.
The DPF General Secretary said that those remand prisoners should be charged to start a process to release them. He said that the DPF had appealed to President Mahinda Rajapaksa several times on this issue without a favourable response.
