Increase in army deserters and suicides
2010-11-01
The Defence Ministry has asked the Army Headquarters to inquire into the increase in the number of soldiers who have deserted the army after the war.
Following the ends of the war, about 30,000 soldiers have deserted the force due to deterioration of discipline and personal reasons. Most soldiers it is learnt have deserted the force due to being victims of personal vendettas, attempt to get involved in homosexual activities, non granting of leave and other basic facilities.
Army officers say that although the force has coordinated super cross events and is now
working on a reality show, no proper action has been taken to set up a programme get the soldiers back into society after the ends of the war.
