United National Party Parliamentarian Dr.Jayalath Jayawardena has accused the government of carrying out false propaganda on the discussions on Sri Lanka in the Inter Parliamentary Union, (IPU) Geneva.
He says that IPU has accepted a proposal he put forward with regard to human rights violations, intimidation and hate - politics of the Sri Lankan government.

“It was not rejected by the IPU. IPU has accepted it to investigate,” he said.

Dr.Jaywardena told BBC Sandesaya that he had particularly brought to the notice of IPU of the alleged allegations brought against the former army commander, MP Sarath Fonseka and that of the first court martial verdict against him

Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe who represented Sri Lanka government delegation said that the submission by Dr.Jayalath Jayawardena was not adopted as a resolution on the basis of facts presented by him.

"Therefore , it will not be taken up at the general sessions,", he said.

Minister Samarasinghe said he pointed out to the IPU that those actions that had been taken against parliamentarian Sarath Fonseka were in compliance with the Sri Lanka constitution and judicial procedures.

Protest

Meanwhile, hundreds of Sri Lankans in the UK gathered in front of the Prime Minister's office in Downing Street to protest against the prision sentence imposed on Former Army Commander, Sarath Fonseka.
