Youths are not only the future leaders but today's change agents too - President
Youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but also today's agents of social change; there is a strong need for global and official recognition of youth as crucial stakeholders in building a peaceful future said President Mahinda Rajapakse inaugurating the International Year of Youth titled 'Dialogue and Mutual Understanding' at Sugathadasa Stadium on a grand scale today (12)..
President pointed out that the Government realizing the needs of providing a better future for the youth has made as sentry point for the empowerment of youths in the country. The Government has embarked on a plan to create a young skillful labourforce to invade the national and the international labour market. Various institutions providing vocational training, tertiary training and the technical education have been brought under the Ministry of youth affairs.
The Government too joins the world family to celebrate this internationally important event globally and the year long commemoration expects to increase recognition of youth development, advocacy for the recognition of young people's contributions to community development, promote understanding of inequalities amongst youths and how effectively address the needs of the most disadvantaged, foster research and knowledge building on youth to better inform youth policies and programmes, he added.
The year long ceremonies in an effort to harness the energy,imagination and initiative of the world's youths in overcoming the challenges facing them and enhancing peace to boosting economic development will run until August 11, 2011.
