Contract to set up military camps in the North to be given to a Chinese company

The Defence Secretary has decided to assign a Chinese company to the task of setting up military camps in the North, sources from the Defence Ministry said. The local agent for the Chinese company is Sumal Perera of Access.

The Defence Secretary has decided to set up 127 new military installations in the North before the resettlement of the displaced is completed in the former LTTE areas.

The President disturbed by our news report that the operations of the Kankasanthurai harbor was to be given to the Chinese, had got Ports Authority Chairman P.B. Wickrama to make a statement that none of the harbors in the country would be given to Chinese firms.


However, reports reaching us say that arrangements have already been made to hand over the operations of harbors in the country’s North and East to the Chinese companies.
