Sinhala Govt would focus on National Reconciliation so that the Country could Learn Lessons from the Past and Move Forward..!!!

GL plans think tank on foreign policy

External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, who assumed duties on Monday, said in his address to the ministry personnel, MPs and other invitees that he was planning to have a think tank to have brainstorming sessions on foreign policy issues.

"The approach of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Sri Lanka’s foreign policy, as underlined in the Mahinda Chinthanaya, was to ensure that it was home grown indigenous and reflected our own relations with countries," Prof. Peiris said.

The Minister said he would work closely with Consuls in Sri Lanka and the business community to meet emerging challenges.

He said efforts were underway to scale down the emergency regulations and that there would be a debate in Parliament to that effect. He pointed out that those were the measures that would show the world that the country was fast returning to normalcy.

He pointed that the government would focus on the area of resettlement of the displaced persons, the restoration of their livelihoods and reintegration in the democratic process. At a time the country was coming out of a harsh and unpleasant period of its history, the government would focus on national reconciliation so that the country could learn lessons from the past and move forward, he said.
