78% of the students in the North have stopped schooling

Northern Province Education Department statistics have revealed that only 22% of the students registered in 2008 are still receiving school education.

According to the latest UN joint humanitarian report, while 80,800 students have been registered in 326 schools in the Northern Province in 2008, by March 31, 2010 only 18,561 students have returned to 115 schools.

The report released on April 21, 2010 has stated that students have been unable to attend school due to the lack of proper transport facilities, the need to help find a living for their respective families and to take care of their younger siblings.
