Assistance for families affected by heavy winds

The families affected by the last week’s heavy winds that destroyed houses in the Panadura, Koralawella and Keselwatte areas are to be compensated between Rs. 50, 000 to Rs.100, 000 to assist them in re-building their houses.

“The families who were affected have been identified as marginally, significantly and completely affected. Most of those affected fall under the significantly affected category, while families whose houses were completely destroyed amount to about 60,” Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha member W.W.S. Lal Fernando said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights, Mahinda Samarasinghe on Sunday, inspected the affected areas and handed relief goods to the families.

Among the goods provided were mats, mosquito nets, tents and sanitary ware.
