Wickramabahu to contest the Presidential elections

New Left Front leader Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratna, speaking to reporters in Colombo a short while ago, said that he will contest the upcoming Presidential elections. He will contest against President Mahinda Rajapaksa and possibly General Sarath Fonseka who is scheduled to confirm this week if he will run for the post. (ISA)

Leader of the New Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Dr. Wickremabahu Karunaratne has decided to contest at the forthcoming Presidential election, a party spokesperson told Lanka News Web.

Dr. Karunaratne has decided to contest the election since none of the other contestants and those hoping to contest do not represent the Leftist movement and the minority communities.

The spokesperson further noted that Dr. Karunaratne has always stood for the rights of minority communities in Sri Lankan politics where politicians change their stances quite frequently.
