Lanka News Web has learnt of a story where the President has taken a sum of Rs. 50,000 from every businessman who attended a party hosted by him for all main businessmen in Armor’s Street.
Sources from Temple Trees said that arrangements were made to collect the money from the businessmen at the event.
The money had been collected claiming it was for the nation building fund, but no receipt had been issued for the payment.
However, the President had promised the businessmen that after making the payment he would ensure that they would not have to make payments to any extortionist. He had also made a special statement that he was the only extortionist in the country and that no one else could extort money over him.
The President had reportedly given these businessmen a telephone number to contact him if any group from the underworld contacted them to extort money.
However, he had also emphasized that the Rs. 50,000 was valid only for a period of 90 days.
