Food stocks brought from India are being directed to the Welfare Villages in Vavuniya
These stocks were brought to the country in the "Cape Colorado" vessel from the Chennai Harbour. The Sri Lanka Red Cross said the stocks will be despatched to the Welfare Villages in Vavuniya within this week. It includes rice, flour, sugar and varieties of grains. The ship, with the 650 metric tons worth about 16 million rupees, reached the Colombo Harbour last weekend. The stocks in 27 containers are being examined by the Customs. Relief goods for displaced
By Amira Cader
Sri Lankan Red Cross Society (SLRCS) stated yesterday that it has no communication or contact with any other organisation or third party other than the Indian Red Cross regarding the 27 containers of relief goods sent by Indian Red Cross for the displaced civilians in Vavuniya IDP camps,
This was after some Indian media reports said Sri Lanka Red Cross through the Indian Red Cross Society had demanded a letter sent to Mercy Mission U.K organisers to remit SL Rs 7.6 million immediately to carry out the distribution of relief goods to the IDPS camps in Sri Lanka
These containers of relief materials landed at Colombo Port last Thursday, in the ship MV Caption Colorado but are still lying un-cleared as the Sri Lankan customs not receiving proper documents for clearance from the Indian Red Cross.
