Nine stupas symbolising unification of Sri Lanka
Attention of the President had been drawn on the establishment of specially planned nine stupas in the nine provinces symbolising the unification of the country, a media release by President’s media division said.
A preliminary discussion on the structural aspect of the stupas was held on Tuesday (12) afternoon at the Temple Trees presided over by the President, the release said.
Views of architects, artisans, artificers and engineers were anticipated.
In addition, the President was concerned with the construction of places of worship for Hindus, Muslims and Christians as well to mark the event ensuring unity and harmony of all.
Minister, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Ranjith Senaratne, Pandu Bandaranayake, Geethanjana Gunawardane, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Cultural Ministry Secretary G. L. W. Samarasinghe, Religions Affairs Ministry Secretary H. M. Herath, Engineering Services Ministry Secretary S. M. A. L. Gunatilleke and many others were also present on the occasion.
