Dear Mrs. Vadi,
On behalf of our Ambassador Petr Kolar, let me express our thanks for your comments and also share your concern for the situation in Sri Lanka.
As the representatives of the Czech Republic, the country, which has always valued human rights and human dignity, we share your anxiety for the present situation in Sri Lanka and suffering of Tamil minority.
Our foreign policy has always put a great emphasize on human rights and every suffering, injustice and hardship of innocent people is of deep concern to us.
A broad decline in fundamental human rights and the failure of the government to stop continuing and serious human right abuses and war crimes should be addressed by the international community.
I would like to inform you that the situation has also been discussed at the European Union level.
For your information I am attaching the press statement of the Council of the European Union, which is, in the first half of the year 2009, chaired by the Czech Republic.
With best regards,
Barbora Esnerova
