Malaka pistol whipped me, bodyguards kicked me: Accountant
By Ananda Weerasuriya
Chartered accountant Chaminda Senasinghe giving evidence at the trial where Labour Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka is charged with assault informed the Mount Lavina Magistrate’s Court that a pistol was pointed at his forehead and he was pistol whipped when he was at a night club.
Mr. Senasinghe said that on September 6, 2007 he visited the Bistro Latino for a dinner date with a German friend.
“While we were waiting for dinner to be served the accused Malaka came to our
table and held my friend by her hand and forced her to go with him. But my friend refused to budge. It was then that Nalaka came back to our table and asked me whether I knew who he was and I said he was Minister Mervyn Silva’s son,” Mr. Senasinghe told Additional Magistrate Dharshika Wimalasiri.
Mr. Senasinghe said that it was at this point that Malaka Silva pulled out a 9 mm pistol, pointed it at Mr. Senasinghe’s forehead and pistol whipped him.
“I fell down and Malaka’s bodyguards started kicking me and then I heard Malaka ordering the bodyguards to attack me on my face,” Mr. Senasinghe said.
At this stage the witness told Court he needed a break and the hearing was put off for May 20. Magistrate Wimalasiri also pulled up the Bambalapitiya police for delaying to submit the Medical Reports and ordered that the reports should be produced without fail at the next hearing.
Bambalapitiya Inspector prosecuted while lawyer Anura Meddegoda appeared for Mr. Senasinghe and lawyers Anil Silva and Clinton Dabare appeared for the defence.
In this case Malaka Silva is facing charges of brandishing a pistol and pistol whipping Chaminda Senasinghe on the head while at the Bistro Latino night club down Dublication Road in Bambalapitiya on September 6, 2007.
