Visit to IDP camps in Vavuniya restricted

The Defence Ministry yesterday restricted entry of all organisations and public individuals to the Vavuniya IDP camps.
The Media Centre for National Security said in a statement that many organisations and individuals have requested permission from the Ministry of Defence to enter the Vavuniya Menik Farm IDP Welfare Village. However, the officials working within the camp have informed the Ministry that due to outside persons many problems have arisen which hindered their progress.

"Due to this it has been decided that outside individuals and organisations will not he permitted to enter the Menik Farm IDP Welfare Village under any circumstance.

Therefore, the Ministry kindly requests all organisations and the public to refrain from seeking permission to enter Vavuniya IDP camps," the statement said.

It also said that thousands of civilians arrived at government controlled areas due to the efforts of the troops and it should be stated that many individuals and organisations extended their support in numerous ways to aid these civilians during their hours of need.

It should be clarified that the government has taken adequate steps to ensure the welfare of the displaced persons and the procedures of the Vavuniya; Menik Farm IDP Village is proceeding satisfactorily.
