The U.N. Security Council will get a briefing on the situation in Sri Lanka on Friday, Inner City Press, reported Senior Reporter of UN based news agency, Inner City Press (ICP), Thursday. The UN briefing comes in the wake of British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, telling British Parliament on Tuesday that Britain refrained from encouraging the move two weeks ago because it didn't want it get vetoed in the Security Council.

A week after the Council's president, Yukio Takaso, said "there is no strong request" anymore, a Permanent Five Council member told Inner City Press on Thursday morning that the Sri Lanka briefing is set for Friday, the ICP reported.

The permanent member of the UN Security Council has told the ICP the Sri Lankan government has been consulted and informed.

The briefing will take place under the heading "Other Matters."
