Dear Shan Nalliah,

As you know, more than 14 million men, women, and children live in refugee camps. Many of these individuals reside in squalid conditions, with five or more people crammed into dirty, one room shacks. Some have been in camps for decades, unable to work, and unsure of their future. Now is the time to once again show your opposition to these deplorable conditions. One way you can do that is by joining with the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) and signing the Stand with a Refugee pledge: www.standwitharefugee.com.

This pledge will represent evidence of an extensive, international constituency that supports basic human rights for all refugees. Such a document will be particularly useful for encouraging the new U.S. Presidential Administration to make refugee rights a foreign policy priority. The more people who demonstrate support for the human rights of all refugees, the harder it will be to deny them.

And remember, every name attached to the pledge offers proof of how many people want to protect refugee rights and help those living in camps find real homes. That's why I am asking if you will place a link to the pledge on the World Tamil Refugee Forum. Your visitors can make change happen by combining their names with the names of those who have stood up and voiced their support for refugee human rights. I can provide you with a banner or a button for the link.

Please take a second to stand with a refugee, and a moment to encourage others to do so as well: www.standwitharefugee.org.

Sincerely,

Joe Killiany
