Police to hold public census in WP

The police are to hold a public census in the Western Province on Sunday targeting all permanent and temporary citizens who migrated from the North and the East.

Police Spokesman Ranjith Gunasekara told the Daily Mirror that the census would be held at every police station in the province from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm on January 4, Sunday. The census will mainly target those who have migrated to the Western Province and Colombo since 2003 including those who were already registered in pervious census programmes.

The migrants are instructed to go to the nearest police station and submit their information for registration.

The police also request the presence of the Security Committee members of the respective areas during the registration.

Question/WTRF: After the same type of census in Colombo earlier, there were many kidnappings and disappearances of Tamils in Colombo by Sinhala security agencies!Many Tamils suspect that police have the same agenda again!!TNA and other parties who really care about minority HR shd protest and inform to UNHCHR/AI/HRW etc! and file the case against this at SC in SL!!!Earlier bad experiences of Tamils before 1983/1977/1958 pogroms shd be taken into consideration!!!
