CPI set to take Lankan issue to UN
Coimbatore: The CPI said it would explore the possibility of taking the issue of killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka to the United Nations, after discussing the issue with human rights campaigners, who are to hold a convention in Chennai on January 23, party Tamil Nadu unit secretary, D Pandyan said.
The party is to meet and discuss the issue of human rights violations by the Sri Lankan government and it’s Army, and decide whether to take it to the UN, Pandyan told reporters here. He said the Centre had failed to take up the issue of a ceasefire as demanded in the Tamil Nadu assembly, which was also discussed with Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, he said.
In this background, his party would mobilize the people of Tamil Nadu and stage a demonstration to pressurize the Centre to take immediate steps to prevent the killing innocent Tamils, Pandyan said.
Pandyan also took urged parties taking credit for starting the Sethu Samudram Canal project in Tamil Nadu, to also play a major role in finding a solution to the problems of Sri Lankan Tamils. - Agencies
