Tamil militants discussed Indian involvement since early 1980s. Some like NLFT and Left wing of PLOT and almost all other groups considered India as expansionist and aggressive element. But the mainstream Nationalist fraction wanted to consider India as a partner because of" Tamil Nadu factor" rather than "Indian ocean factor".
Everything in the world is changing according to interests. Nothing is permanent. If you want to see the reality and the future problem areas of Indian unity, you have to go to Rameswaram and speak to the TN- fishermen. Will you believe 300 fishermen were shot dead since 1983 by Sri Lankan Navy. Fishermen say, India not only refused to take action, only because we are South Indians, but also give arms and strengthening Sri Lankan Navy. Sri Lankan Navy was asked to shoot Tamil fishermen by Chinese, Pakistan and Sri Lankan intelligent conglomerate (CPS) working to destabilise India. If this trend continued, Tamil fishermen have no other way than Surrender to CPS. This will affect Tamil Militant position also.
Some Indian diplomats and researchers are still in the former Soviet era. Some failed to see what happened to Transnational ethnic groups such as Tamils and Bengalis in the globalisation. Tamilnadu is not only a sympathiser for justice and peace/harmony but also affected by external factors!
